This was a first-time custom build on a challenging half-acre in Hudson Bend, and the finished product does not give that away. Thoughtful site planning and close collaboration with engineers and trades made room for a large home, a pool and spa, and a 180-degree Hill Country view, all built around exactly what the homeowners asked for.

On the exterior, Texas limestone and crisp white stucco work together without competing, and the dark-framed windows give the facade a sharpness that feels current without being cold.

Inside, vaulted ceilings with stained wood beams set the tone for the rest of the home. Warm, clean, and open. The kitchen features a walnut island with brass pendants overhead and the pantry is painted deep olive from floor to ceiling. The primary bath has a freestanding soaking tub beneath a chandelier.

04 - The DREAM, REALIZED

"We recently moved into our custom home built by Alec and Mike, and all I can say is that they are absolute masters of their craft and true hidden gems as builders. What separated them from the dozen builders I interviewed was their deep relationships with top-tier subcontractors and the masterful scheduling that only comes with experience. Their trades actually showed up on time, respected the job site, and delivered high-quality work. There were minimal dead days throughout the entire process. For context, I have a friend who started a remodel when we broke ground, went with the cheaper GC, and they’re still not done.

Of course, every custom build has hiccups, but it’s how Alec and Mike navigated them that made all the difference. Instead of just handing us a problem, they always came to the table with a solution—especially when dealing with regulatory bodies. Our lot was highly technical with a steep slope, but they managed it flawlessly, helping us utilize every inch of the property to get exactly what we wanted.

On top of that, their communication was constant, transparent, and direct. And they don’t stop once the final check is written—they are proactively checking in with us during our warranty period and more importantly the trades are handling it. To put that in perspective, my neighbor used a different builder and has been struggling for months just to get his warranty items handled.

Overall, they crushed our build. Five-star experience from start to finish. I cannot recommend Jace & Bowen enough to anyone looking to build their dream house. The quality of our home speaks for itself and I will absolutely be working with them on my next build.

03 - The BUILD

The floor plan threads the needle between modern and livable. Open gathering spaces flow naturally into functional ones, so the home feels expansive without feeling cold. From the moment you walk in, there's a quality to the finishes and the details that reads as luxury, and the layout is designed around how the family plans to grow. The primary suite is a good example of that thinking. The owner's closet was built oversized with custom shelving and connects directly to both the laundry room and the master bath, cutting out the back-and-forth that makes daily routines more complicated than they need to be. Upstairs, the in-law suite gives guests a complete, private space with full amenities, close to the family but with enough separation to feel like their own.

8 MONTHS FROM BLUEPRINTS TO KEYS

Out back is where the lot really pays off. The covered patio opens up to a 180-degree view of the rolling Hill Country hills, and the homeowners made the most of it. An outdoor kitchen, fireplace, TV, and a pool and spa round out a space that works just as well for a quiet evening as it does for a full gathering. The whole back of the home was designed with that balance in mind: a place that takes full advantage of the views, has room for the family to spread out, and can handle a crowd when the occasion calls for it.

02 - The challenge

We won't shy away from a challenge...

The lot itself set the terms early. At just under half an acre with challenging topography, the goal of fitting a large home, a pool and outdoor living space, and a septic field on a single piece of land wasn't going to be a straightforward conversation. It required careful thinking before a single stake went in the ground. Layered on top of that were the septic jurisdiction specifications, which came with their own inspection requirements and a process that didn't leave any room for shortcuts.

The answer was coordination. Michael and Alec brought the right engineers and trades together at the front end, working through the site constraints as a team rather than solving problems one at a time when they popped up. That early collaboration shaped how the home and pool were positioned on the lot, a layout designed to maximize functionality, preserve the views, and keep the build cost from spiraling. When it came to the septic jurisdiction's requirements, the team tracked every step of the process and followed the approved plans precisely, which is the only way to get through that kind of inspection without delays.

01 - The vision

For this couple, building their first home was about more than square footage and finish selections. They had a vision for how their family growing, the outdoor gatherings, and they wanted every detail of the home to reflect that, from the flow of the floor plan to the way natural light would move through the rooms. When they found their lot in Hudson Bend, they knew it was the right place.

The lot came with real challenges, slopes and site conditions that would trip up a builder without the experience to adapt. Working closely with the clients through every phase, the Jace & Bowen Custom Builders team made sure that what got built matched what the family had imagined, and that the process felt manageable along the way.
